Ochoreniu COVID-19 podľahol v utorok v nemocnici v Nashville aj známy americký folkový spevák John Prine. O jeho úmrtí na sociálnych sieťach informovali jeho manželka Fiona Whelan Prine a tiež spevákov manažér. Jeden z najcenenejších amerických pesničkárov, ktorý v minulosti spolupracoval s takými velikánmi ako Bob Dylan či Johnny Cash, zomrel vo veku 73 rokov.

„Sme otrasení stratou Johna Prinea,“ reagoval na úmrtie speváka za celú svoju kapelu Bruce Springsteen, podľa ktorého bol Prine „najmilším človekom na svete„.

Bob Dylan sa o Prineovi už dávnejšie v rozhovore pre Huffington Post vyjadril, že rád počúva jeho hudbu, ktorá preňho predstavuje „čistý existencializmus“. „Skladá nádherné pesničky,“ ocenil Dylan speváka.

I cannot be with him which makes this nightmare all the more distressing for me. As you know, John was put on a ventilator last Saturday. He still needs quite a bit of help with his breathing. Like many patients currently in ICU beds all around the world, John has pneumonia in both lungs. He has also developed some peripheral issues that are being treated with meds, including antibiotics. He is very ill and yet I remain hopeful that he can continue to fight this devastating virus and come home where we can care for him. I don’t have the words to adequately Thank You all for the outpouring of love and prayers that John and our family has received this last week. It means the world to us to have your love and support at this difficult time. On behalf of me and our boys- Jody Jack and Tommy – please know that we are keeping you all in our hearts with a prayer that you stay safe and healthy. John Prine sa narodil v roku 1946 v Maywoode v americkom štáte Illinois, väčšinu života však prežil v Nashville, mekke amerického folku a country. Pôvodne dlhé roky pracoval ako poštár a počas svojich každodenných pochôdzok skladal piesne, ktoré si po večeroch nahrával.

Do svetla reflektorov ho vytiahol herec a spevák Kris Kristofferson, ktorý spoznal jeho talent, keď ho videl vystupovať v menšom klube v Chicagu.

Debutový eponymný album vydal Prine v roku 1971. Spolu mu za takmer 50-ročnú hudobnú kariéru vyšlo osemnásť štúdiových albumov, vrátane toho posledného, The Tree of Forgiveness z roku 2018.
